Pet Lingerie

A musical about love, dreams, and really bad crowdfunding ideas

Welcome to the Crowdfunding Success Weekend…

led by the suave, tech-crazed Kickstarter king himself, Gary Panko. Can crowdfunding save your soul? That’s what Gary and his students believe, and with ideas like an orgasm lie-detector app and a mechanism that plays Pavarotti when you flush the toilet, how can they fail?

What’s Pet Lingerie About?

At the Airport Suites Hotel in Terre Haute, Indiana, three characters meet to reboot their lives and find success via crowdsourcing. It’s the Crowdsourcing Success Weekend, led by the suave, tech-crazed Kickstarter king himself, GARY PANKO. Google him and you’ll find some of his most successful campaigns, like Baby Toupees, Gerbil Central, and Pet Lingerie (a line of sexy garments for every kind of pet).

One by one, Panko’s eager students arrive: RUBEN DELAROSA, a young muffler salesman from Brooklyn who’s seeking funding for a lie-detector app that can tell faked from real orgasms; FRANCES ULRICH, a divorcee whose F.U. Cookie Company sends cookies with an F.U. note to the slimebag of your choice; and FRANK PINCUS, an ex-plumber from Florida who’s come to fulfill his wife’s dying wish: Opera Flush, the first device that turns any toilet into an operatic jukebox.

Our students put their faith in Gary Panko, mistaking his slick online facade for the real thing: a has-been who has sacrificed his one true love for a last shot at glory. Gary’s entire self-worth rises and falls with his “likes” and click-through rates. This fact emerges when his ex-girlfriend, the Italian spitfire SILVANA, shows up to accuse him of stealing her idea for his latest Kickstarter campaign: The Pope Dummy—a puppet that absolves your sins in any language at the touch of a button. The “Pope” soon starts showing up in Gary’s dreams as his moral conscience.

Gary realizes the error of his ways and comes clean with his students—and Silvana—winning her back, and leaving his students with a new take on what it means to connect.

Gerbil Central—for people who don’t like hamsters
